Susan Breedlove
Susan is no stranger to the Toxaway-Sapphire area, having lived in Lake Toxaway Estates since taking a summer job here while a student at Furman University. Getting her start working for R.D. Heinitsh, Sr., the developer of Lake Toxaway Estates, Susan has been active in the real estate business for over 30 years, witnessing firsthand the phenomenal growth of the area. During this time she's developed a keen "sixth sense" for property values that she utilizes every day as President of Susan Breedlove Properties. Susan, a NC-licensed broker, is a member of both the Highlands-Cashiers and Brevard Boards of Realtors and Chambers of Commerce, using her participation to promote a high standard of professionalism in the real estate business.
Besides new home sales, Susan also has been highly successful in the rental field, beginning with cottages at Lake Toxaway Country Club and expanding in the years since. She attributes this success to her attention to detail in helping provide both owners and renters with the perfect rental experience.
Chris Whitmire
Chris grew up in the Lake Toxaway area and considers it one of the most beautiful places in the world. Having traveled five of the seven continents and visited more than 30 countries, he should know. Chris graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in the top one-percent of his class and subsequently attended Columbia University as a Guggenheim Scholar where he received a Masters of Science in structural engineering. He is an FAA Airline Transport Pilot with type ratings in the Boeing 707/720 and multiple Learjet models and is a published author. His latest publications reside at:

In addition to these endeavors, Chris serves the local area as an elected member of the Transylvania County Board of Education.
As a North Carolina Realtor, Chris has broker-in-charge experience and extensive knowledge of the area’s magnificent view, lake, golf, and acreage properties. He is a primary member of the Highlands-Cashiers Board of Realtors and a secondary member of the Western North Carolina Regional Board. His dual membership, coupled with his attention to detail, allows him to better represent his clients. His listings get greater exposure and his buyers see more choices. As far as the important things in life, he is blessed with a wonderful wife and three young children with whom he loves to share the many opportunities the area has to offer.
Nancy Willis
Nancy and her husband Mike owned and operated their own real estate business for over 20 years. When Mike joined the medical profession and she closed her office, Nancy wanted to work for a firm able to handle all aspects of the real estate market and Susan Breedlove Properties was the obvious choice in the Toxaway area. Nancy has two sons, one in college at East Carolina University and the other serving in the US Army. She is a NC-licensed broker, an avid duplicate bridge player, loves to read mysteries, and attends Lake Toxaway United Methodist Church.
Thyra Chapman
Thyra is a native of the area, having worked in real estate in the Cashiers, Brevard and Lake Toxaway area for over 20 years. Her husband is retired as a supervisor from DuPont Co. with 30 years of service and now has his second career as owner of Chapman Landscaping. The Chapmans are the parents of thee grown children, two of whom have been fortunate enough to remain in the area. One daughter teaches at our award-winning local high school while she pursues her Ph.D. in Education Administration and Leadership. The other is married to a sergeant with the local police department and works for Carolina Mountains Credit Union, while their son is a graduate of NC State University and owner of Corbett Ridge Cattle Farms in the piedmont section of North Carolina. Thyra and her husband are also grandparents to four beautiful granddaughters.
Marjorie Owen
Equipped with little more than her newly acquired broker's license and a fair amount of grit and determination, Marjorie moved back to her ancestral home near Lake Toxaway in the fall of 1984, after having lived away for many years. Besides general real estate sales her experience since then includes work as an appraiser's apprentice, a stint as a developer's assistant, real estate accounting and broker in charge duties.
Her area of special expertise is land - acreages large and small, building lots, farms and land/home combinations. She has a natural ability with maps and boundary surveys and the vision to see the possibilities inherent in a parcel of land.
Marjorie married Jack Owen, proprietor of Toxaway Falls Stand, in 1999. She is a writer, an artist and a church soloist.
Nancy Avera
Nancy attended Duke University and Indiana University earning bachelors and master's degrees. She joined Watson Realty Corp. (a Florida company with 55 offices) in 1974, retiring in 1996 as senior vice president.
In 2005 Nancy joined Susan Breedlove Properties, having bought property in Lake Toxaway Estates in 1992. She possesses both GRI and CRB designations.
